Privacy Policy
This policy is effective as of 1 August 2017. Last updated 24 August 2025.
Introduction
At Hildebrand and Glow we respect the privacy of your information and will do our utmost to ensure that it is kept private. Our objective is to comply with the UK Data Protection Act of 2018 (the "Act"), Data Use and Access Act (DUAA) of 2025 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as it applies to the UK; we take all reasonable care to prevent any unauthorised access to your personal data. (Glow is a trading name of Hildebrand Technology Limited, www.hildebrand.co.uk, Company Number 05577050).
Glow provides applications (web sites, apps and APIs) to help households and businesses monitor and manage their energy consumption. We collect as little Personally Identifiable Information as possible about our customers and store that information in separate systems to their energy consumption data and related information (pricing, region of supply, etc.).
You need an account that is compatible with Glow to use our service; apps which are compatible include Bright and any other apps on the Apple App Store or google Playstore where Hildebrand is the developer. When you first register to join Glow we collect your email address. This email address will only be used by ourselves to communicate with you about the Glow service - we will not use it to send you any other marketing material. Your email address will not be shared by us with any third parties or partner companies without your express permission to do so.
The information we collect and how we use it
Other than your email address, the only other personal information we definitely collect from you will be your Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN), also known as your Supply Number. Depending on the app you are using, we may also ask questions based around your own energy consumption profile (for example size and type of your home or business) so that you can compare your energy consumption (anonymously) to people with similar profiles. We may also use the answers you provided to understand the profile of Glow users; the demographic data will be combined with usage data to allow us to carry out analysis which helps us to continuously improve the service. That data will always be kept anonymous.
To verify your identity we may also ask you to submit the following verification information to us through a Glow service:
- Energy bill
- Other form of UK government approved address verification
- Credit card details (only used for address verification, not held)
If you are not our direct customer, but using one of our Apps provided by your supplier, we may not need to collect all of the above information to verify your identity.
We use your personally identifiable information data as follows:
